Charles and Donna Brown founded Charlie's Oilfield Specialty Company in September of 1981. Charlie brought with him 29 years of oilfield supplies experience. They purchased a home and moved to Olney, Illinois to begin their new venture as manufacturer's representative with just two companies, Demco and a wellhead line. In January 1982 son Gary began work for them and daughter Lynda followed in August of 1984. In 1985 the company incorporated and dropped the Oilfield to become Charlie’s Specialty, Inc., which it remains today.

Charlie’s has grown and shrank over the past 31 years picking up many companies to represent and serving as distributors for many others. At one point besides Charlie, Donna, Gary and Lynda, a daughter-in-law and grandson also worked for the company and only one other non-family member. Donna worked 40 hours a week until she was diagnosed with leukemia in August of 2000. 20 months later she lost her battle in May of 2002.  Charlie continued another year and in the summer of 2003 health problems forced him to retire, however he remained President until his death in 2009. Lynda became President in August 2009.
